Glorifying twelve (12) IT leaders in South East Asia

In the evening of September 28th in Hanoi, The INTERNATIONAL DATA GROUP (IDG) held an award handing ceremony for outstanding IT leaders of South East Asia, 7th session (2011) with a view to glorifying the twelve (12) Chief Information Officers (CIO) for their initiative and strategic views.

Among the 12 candidates for the award, there were two foreign candidates, one was Mr. AMARIT LAORAKPONG , D. Eng. CIO, Siam Commercial Bank of Thailand and Mr. HO SIN KHEONG , CIO RHB Bank of Malaysia.

For Vietnam, there were ten (10) award winners in which 5 CIOs belonged to the state sector, comprising Mr. DOAN QUANG HOAN, Director General of the Frequency Department of the Ministry of Information and Communication, Mr. DO VAN XE, Vice Rector of Can Tho University, Mr. PHAN NGOC THO, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Thua Thien Hue province, Mr. THAI VINH LIEU, Standing Deputy Secretary, Chief of Information Steering Committee of Quang Tri Province Party Committee, and Mr. TRAN MA THONG, Deputy Director of Customs Department of Ho Chi Minh City.

Two winners from the banking-financial-insurance sector were Mr. CAO BA THUY, in charge of IT sector of Housing Bank of Hanoi (HABUBANK) and Mrs. DANG THI PHUONG BA, Director of IT Center of Saigon Hanoi Commercial Joint Stock Bank (SHB) .

The IT and communication sector saw Mr. CHU TIEN DUNG, Chairman of the Board of Members of Quang Trung Software Development Company as the winner.

The winner came from the trade and service sector was Mr. TRAN THE NAM, Director General of A Chau IT JSC.

The winner from the production-transport-energy sector was Ms DAM THI HUYEN, Deputy General Director (Trading) of Vietnam National Petroleum Corporation (PETROLIMEX).

In the press meeting before the ceremony, the outstanding IT leaders had an exchange of views on the difficulties and challenges in the application of IT in their respective units and shared their valuable experience for success.

Initiated since 2005, until now there were 56 winners of the CIO award in the South East Asia region.

The elite CIOs have played an important role in directing and developing the IT in their respective enterprises of late.
